We inspire our children to think of life outside the slum.

Our Team

Meet our extraordinary team at Little Lions. Together they create a safe haven and a nourishing second home for our kids. Most of our teachers and support staff grew up in slums or villages, over 60% of them were orphaned young and all have experienced significant hardship to gain an education. They know the challenges, they understand the trauma and they’re highly motivated to change the lives of our Little Lions. Lead by Tuju Otieno, our inspiring Project Director, our team also includes a full time therapist to support the children as they navigate the intense stresses of slum living.

At Little Lions School, our mission is to elevate children out of poverty through education. We provide a safe, nurturing environment where children can thrive academically and personally. By offering quality education and support, we aim to inspire and empower the young minds in our care, helping them realize their full potential.

Our story

In 2019, we stumbled across a tiny school. It was a tin shack stuffed to the gills with little children of varying ages excitedly doing their ABC's. Conditions were extremely poor but enthusiasm was rich. We left with smiles and the kindling of an ambition to be of service to the little people we had met.

October 2020

We learnt that the school had been bulldozed by the local council, spurring us into action. Initially providing funding for daily meals for all of the children for three months, we then decided that the time was now for us to step up and start our own school. And so began Little Lions.

January 2021

Having found a building to rent on the outskirts of Kibera, and with further generous donations from friends across the world, in January 2021 we welcomed our first children to the new school and set about to develop all of the infrastructure and systems that would support our ambition for our children:  to elevate them out of poverty through education.

There are tens of thousands of children, young minds, full of potential, trapped in the vacuum of poverty.

We have friends out there we've never even met. To all of you, thank you. You are heroes.
