2. Focus on registering Sakati and use recyclable waste bin

This is an outreach project focusing on the empowerment of the local youths through job creation.

The youths agreed on trash collection which would be as follows:

20-30 youths per village will undertake the job, working twice a week. Each household will be charged a certain amount(Ksh.20) for trash collection.

The group operate within Maranatha area, Kibera ,the map below

LL community project was given the management of the designated county garbage collection area. LL will use this space for sorting and decomposition of vegetable waste.

Activities & Costs

Garbage collection ($2.400)

• Bins/garbage  bags or bins

Solid Waste Campaigns ($2.000)

• Holding community meetings

‍

Street cleaning ($21.600)

• Cleaning of the streets & any other related works. Salaries & lunch.
• Purchase of a pick-up to enable trash collection in the neighbourhood
• The target will be to register a tleast 30  apartment blocks or business, each paying USD.100 per month for garbage collection. This translates to USD.3000 per month and Usd.36,000 per year. The income will be sufficient to pay salaries and running cost of the garbage collection.

Composting of food waste ($3.000)

• Fencing of the holding ground & composting. This is a one time payment.
• LL can consider packaging the fertiliser and selling or  retain for our own farm use

Recycling of plastic ($200.000)

• Plastic and sand recycling machine. The cost includes purchase,shipping & installation
• LL can consider packaging the fertiliser and selling or  retain for our own farm use
